Consortia
The first 2 Consortia were established in 2019, aiming the sustainable and continuous development of activities that will ensure the advanced training of scientists from Portuguese Speaking Countries, within the scope of the installation and promotion of “Centro Ciência LP”, under the terms agreed with UNESCO in 2009. In 2020, a third Consortium was established, and in 2021 two new Consortia joined the group. The last Consortium was established in 2022.
Through the signature of Protocols with FCT, were created the Consortium of Engineering Schools (CEE) and the Consortium of Schools of Agriculture (CECA). In 2020 the 2 Consortia were joined by the Consortium of Biodiversity and Natural Sciences (CEBiCNa), and in 2021, the Consortium of Public Health Schools (CESP), and the Consortium of Life Sciences and Biomedicine Schools (CCVB) were also established. In 2022 was created the Marine Sciences Schools Consortium (CEMAR), to add this scientific area to those already present.
The Consortia aim to promote the Centro Ciência LP in the fields corresponding to engineering sciences, technology and related areas and in agrarian sciences in their multiple areas, including, among others, agriculture, forestry, food and natural products, biological and environmental resources, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and public health, life sciences and biomedicine, as well as the underlying fundamental sciences, particularly fostering:
a) The cooperation between scientific and academic institutions of Portuguese Speaking countries, in order to ensure the social responsibility of national institutions at regional and international level;
b) The identification and systematic involvement of institutional partners at scientific and academic level in Portuguese Speaking countries, being given priority to scientific and technological institutions with strong local and endogenous roots to local activity, in addition to others to be later developed in the scope of “Centro Ciência LP”.
