Consortia of Schools
Consortia of Schools establishment aims the sustainable and continuous development of R&D activities that ensure advanced training for scientists from Portuguese-speaking countries, within the scope of the Centro Ciência LP.
Background
In 2019, through the signature of agreements with the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Consortium of Engineering Schools (CEE) and the Consortium of Agricultural Sciences Schools (CECA) were created. In 2020, the Consortium of Biodiversity and Natural Sciences Schools (CEBiCNa) was created and, in 2021, the Consortium of Public Health Schools (CESP) and the Consortium of Life Sciences and Biomedicine Schools (CCVB) were established. Finally, in 2022, the Consortia of Marine Sciences Schools (CEMAR) was created. The Consortia of Schools are aimed at stimulating Centro Ciência LP activities in their respective fields.

Assignments
Within the scope of their responsibilities, the established Consortia shall:
- Promote the cooperation between scientific and academic institutions of Portuguese-speaking countries, in order to ensure the social responsibility of national institutions at regional and international level;
- Promote the identification and systematic involvement of institutional partners at scientific and academic level in Portuguese-speaking countries, being given priority to scientific and technological institutions with strong local and endogenous roots to local activity, in addition to others to be later developed in the scope of the Centro Ciência LP;
- Ensure the technical functioning for the development of the work of the Consortium;
- Ensure the conditions for receiving and hosting the students with a PhD scholarship awarded by FCT within Ciencia LP Centre’s framework, whose host institution is one of the R&D units associated with the Consortium’s schools, namely their monitoring, as well as providing the necessary means for carrying out the work included in their PhD plan, including the components carried out in Portuguese Speaking countries;
- Apply for funding programes that enable the promotion of higher education training actions in Portuguese Speaking countries, namely advanced training and scientific capacity building;
- Support the preparation of funding projects that enable scientific and technological structures to be set up or dynamised in Portuguese Speaking countries, including the organization of workshops and seminars within the Consortium’s scientific areas.
